Books: Teen drummer gets a taste of life on the road

Husband and wife authors Mark Huntley Parsons and Wendelin Van Draanen bring their “He Said, She Said” tour to Bookworks at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13. Parsons will present his “Road Rash” in which a teenage drummer finds out what life is “really” like on tour with a rock band. Van Draanen will have her new Sammy Keyes series novel.

“Longmire” series author Craig Johnson will read from his new Walt Longmire book at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14.

At 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17 Thomas Clagett will discuss “The Pursuit of Murieta: A Western Novel.”

The bookstore is at 4022 Rio Grande NW.

AT PAGE ONE: Local photographer and writer Mike Butterfield will be at Page One Bookstore at 3 p.m. May 18 to talk about and sign his new photography book, “New Mexico’s High Peaks: A Photographic Celebration.” It covers not only named summits in the state but also many trails, access points and viewing spots.

Page One is at 5850 Eubank NE, Suite B-41, in the Mountain Run Shopping Center.

IN SANTA FE: Judith Orloff, M.D., a New York Times best-selling author, will speak and sign her book “The Ecstasy of Surrender: 12 Surprising Ways Letting Go Can Empower Your Life” at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at The Ark Books, 133 Romero St.

AT TREASURE HOUSE: Author and historian Don Bullis signs “Unsolved: New Mexico’s American Valley Ranch Murder and Other Mysteries” from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at Treasure House Books & Gifts, 2012 South Plaza NW in Old Town.

Robert Kresge discusses and signs his latest historical mystery in his “Warbonnet” series, “Warrior Hearts,” from 1-3 p.m. May 18 at Treasure House.

AT TITLE WAVE: David Bachelor will sign his book “Dorothea and Preston: A Story of Love” from 4-6 p.m. Friday, May 16 at the bookstore, 2318 Wisconsin NE.

NEW BOOK: Kate J. Kuligowski is the author of “Our Most Treasured Tails: Sixty Years of Pet Rescue.” Her family rescued hundreds of “thrown-away” pets in New Mexico. The chapters tell of moving adventures of the rescue, care and placement of abandoned dogs and cats. Proceeds of the book will benefit four New Mexico animal shelters. Craig Johnson, the author of 11 novels in the “Walt Longmire” series, will be at the bookstore with “Any Other Name: A Longmire Mystery” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 13. A sheriff’s mysterious death spurs the new novel.

Joseph Badal will present his thriller “Ultimate Betrayal” and Robert Kresge will sign the fourth book in his historical mystery “Warbonnet” series, “Warrior Hearts,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 at Collected Works.
