LAS CRUCES – The physics department at New Mexico State University has received a $300,000 research grant from the U.S. Department of Defense.
The grant was awarded to a team of faculty led by professor Stefan Zollner. The funds will go toward buying a new high-resolution X-ray diffractometer and reflectometer.
He says the instrument can measure distances between atoms and can be applied to a range of materials.
University officials say the device will help in a variety of research areas at the university.
