ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Anthony Leon has played an abundance of shows over the years. Yet, he’s never played the Crawdaddy Blues Fest – until this year.
“I love playing for bikers,” he says. “It’s an experience that I think we all enjoy.”
Leon is the namesake for the alt-country band Anthony Leon & The Chain. The band includes Daniel Jaramillo, Benito Rose Plaza, Freddy Lopez and David Badstubner.
Leon says the band has been together since 2010 and has toured regionally. It has a goal of heading out to the East Coast to perform some shows out there, as well.
“We’ve been planning some house concerts out in those areas,” he says. “This gives us a chance to have a more intimate concert and be able to listen to what the audience has to say.”
Anthony Leon & The Chain released its latest album, “Hell To Pay,” last year and is touring in support of it. In fact, Leon says the band will push harder with a tour this summer to support the album.
“We’ve just touched the surface with this album,” he says. “It has more legs to it and we’ll take it there.”
Music doesn’t take up all of Leon’s time; he admits that he’s recently caught the acting bug. He recently appeared in Joe West’s “Theater of Death: An Evening of Plays Inspired by The Grand Guignol of Paris” at the Mine Shaft Engine House Theater in Madrid for two weeks.
This was his first foray into theater and he enjoyed it.
“I kind of want to try my hand at writing for theater,” he says. “Being in the play was so much fun. I didn’t realize that I would enjoy it as much as I have.”
Also scheduled for the two-day event are Junior Brown, CW Ayon, Todd Tijerina, Imperial Rooster, Felix y Los Gatos and more. Visit crawdaddybluesfest.com for the complete schedule.
