Transient charged in stabbing

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police have arrested and charged Eric Coleman, a 32-year-old transient, with the stabbing death of April Briceno.

According to a police report, Briceno was found dead in her apartment bedroom at 7300 block of Montgomery NE on Saturday, shortly before midnight. A large machete covered in blood was found on the bed next to a wallet containing Coleman’s identification, according to police.

Coleman told police he was on “meth” and remembers stabbing Briceno in the chest. He said he was angry because he believed Briceno was cheating on him, according to a criminal complaint.

“I lost it,” he told police. “If I can’t have her, then I will take my consequences.”

Coleman had just been released from the Santa Fe County jail last week.
