SANTA FE, N.M. — Two males pulling a red wagon with stuff in it just before 1 a.m. in Santa Fe on Monday caught the eye of sheriff’s deputies responding to a report of a burglary in progress.
The deputies made contact with the subjects and found the wagon contained wallets with their contents, car stereos and batteries, a portable water heater and a leg holster, said a Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office report. Several vehicles in the area of Greenway and Willow Way in the Fairway Village area had been broken into, authorities said.
Arrested and booked into jail on charges of auto burglary, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, larceny, and injuring and tampering with motor vehicle were Jose Sapien, 18, of Santa Fe, the report said. A 14-year-old, unidentified juvenile was also arrested.
According to a statement of probable cause filed in Santa Fe Magistrate Court: Sapien agreed to talk with deputies and told them that he and the juvenile were walking along looking for unlocked cars and he pointed out four or five vehicles the two took property from. The property was returned to the owners who were unaware that their cars had been burglarized.
