Tuesday: The Isotopes and host Omaha played a late game to begin a four-game set.
This and that: Albuquerque OF Joc Pederson reached base safely in 11 of his 18 plate appearances in the recently concluded home series against New Orleans, including his 17th home run, and had three stolen bases. Pederson was in a 2-for-20 funk before that series. Pederson ranks seventh in the Pacific Coast League in batting average (.327), first in on-base percentage (.442) and second in slugging percentage (.598). The “three true outcomes” have occurred in 52 percent of Pederson’s 302 plate appearances this year: 89 strikeouts (29.5 percent), 51 walks (16.9 percent) and 17 home runs (5.6 percent).
… C Tim Federowicz homered Monday in his first game back with the ‘Topes, after the Dodgers optioned him to the minors. It’s the second time Federowicz did that. The first was a grand slam April 12, 2013, in Iowa.
… Coming into Tuesday, the ‘Topes ranked 12th in the PCL in runs scored with 339. They’ve never finished below seventh in the 16-team circuit since their inception in 2003.
… IF Delvis Morales on Monday became the 44th player to appear on the Isotopes roster this year, the 42nd to appear in a game and the 13th infielder.
… When flying in the morning and playing later that night, the Isotopes were 5-2 this year coming into Tuesday’s game in Omaha. Included in the five wins are two of the 10-plus run outputs and a shutout victory. If you include getting off the bus and playing, Albuquerque improves to 6-2.
… After four games in Omaha, the Isotopes move to Iowa for four more.
