In hopes of identifying him, Santa Fe police have released photos of a baseball cap and a religious icon worn by the bicyclist who was hit and killed by the Rail Runner train on Monday morning.

The man, believed to 44, was pronounced dead at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center after the 11:30 a.m. accident at St. Michaels Drive at the train crossing.

“The man was wearing the pictured Virgen Del Carmen scapular (or Our Lady of Mount Carmel) around his neck when he was hit,” said a police department news release. “A scapular is a common sacramental worn by Catholics, around their necks and under their clothes. The man’s scapular is brown with gold embroidery and made of cloth. The Virgen Del Carmen is depicted on one side and a gold cross on the other.”

According to the release: “The biker was also wearing a white baseball hat with a black lettering that says ‘NEW YORK – THE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD,’ on it. He also had a gold chain around his neck.”

If anyone recognizes these articles and believes they may be able help police identify the man, they are asked to call officer Paul Blea at (505) 955-5205 or Santa Fe Police at (505) 428-3710.
