New executive hired to work on Winrock project

winrockfileThe company behind Winrock’s redevelopment has hired a new executive to spearhead construction of the massive Uptown project.

Goodman Realty Group announced this week that Fred Gorenz would be its new senior vice president and director of development, a role that includes overseeing Winrock Town Center construction.

Gorenz most recently worked as a broker with the Berger Briggs firm, but he has a lengthy background in the construction industry. He spent 36 years at Gerald Martin, ultimately serving as president of the Albuquerque construction firm from 2005-2011.

While he was at Gerald Martin, the company worked on several high-profile projects including the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum and Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa. The firm also provided construction management services at Spaceport America.

In his new role with Goodman, Gorenz said he’ll deal with clients, architects, engineers and contractors to help things come together for the Winrock project.

“It’s been underway for a long time and I’m kind of coming in and trying to figure out how I can best assist in reaching the different goals they’ve got set,” he said.

Goodman bought Winrock in 2007, and progress so far has included the opening of a 16-screen Regal Cinemas theater and two restaurants. Crews currently are building a new Dave & Buster’s on site, while a Nordstrom Rack and DSW are in the pipeline for 2015.

Goodman President and CEO Gary Goodman said in a statement that Gorenz “will be invaluable as we develop our unique projects in the state and around the country, and expand our consulting services.”
