Two drivers struck and killed a 50-year-old man Tuesday night, and neither stopped to help him, as he tried to cross the southbound lanes of San Mateo near Aztec NE.

Police identified the victim as 50-year-old Donald Gonzales and provided more details about his death, including that two unknown vehicles struck him. The crash happened around 8:45 p.m., police said.

Witnesses told police that both vehicles fled the area. Gonzales was taken to a hospital, where he died.

APD is asking the public for help in finding the drivers by calling 242-COPS (242-2677).

“Our most sincere condolences are with the Gonzales family during this time,” Sgt. Ferris Simmons said in an email.

Gonzales’ is the latest of several pedestrian deaths in Albuquerque in recent weeks.
