Golf: Charity Slam is open to new ideas

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Last week’s Rio Grande Charity Slam at Santa Ana Golf Club was a smashing success in its first year. Event organizers report raising $200,000, which will be split between the Notah Begay 3 Foundation and the Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque.

But officials are hoping to make it even bigger in years to come.

“We want to keep doing things with community,” said Derek Gutierrez, director of golf of the Santa Ana Corp. “We know the JCC and NB3 Foundation are on board, but if there are things we can do for golfers and nongolfers alike to bring more bodies out, we absolutely are open to any ideas for the future.”

If you’re interested in getting involved, call Gutierrez at 505-867-3000.
