SANTA FE, N.M. — Chris Jamison is ready to take some time off. And he couldn’t be happier.
“At the end of summer, my wife and I will welcome a baby to the world,” he says during an interview from his Jerome, Ariz., home. “It’s surreal because I know it’s coming. I’ve also started to become more protective and it’s only going to get more involved. I can’t wait to see how my life changes. Maybe one day, I’ll be able to take the whole family out during summer tours.”
While the songwriter and his wife await the arrival, he is doing one last leg of touring before the due date.
“I’ve got to get some time in on tour before my focus turns to my family,” he says.
In fact, Jamison has already finished an upcoming – yet currently untitled – full-length album. The album is slated to be released in early 2015.
“It’s been amazing to be able to have this all finished,” he says. “I moved the process along faster so I could have the entire album done before the due date.”
While Jamison waits for August to come, he says he’s been touring relentlessly. He recently did a 21-day stint along the coast of California and performed 22 shows.
“There was a lot of driving and I had only one day off,” he says. “But I got to see so much of the coast. I had only really seen San Francisco before and it was nice to see some great spots.”
Jamison says he recorded the new album at Ghost Town Studios in Jerome, Ariz., which is near his home.
On his current tour he will be playing the majority of his current album, “Sleeping With the T.V. On.”
“I’m going to try to hold onto the new songs,” he says. “I want to do a proper release and tour when the album is ready to come out.”
