Preparations for the International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe were well under way over the weekend, with tents and decorations already going up on Museum Hill. With part of the parking lots already blocked by the preparations, visitors to the museums on Sunday found themselves being directed — sometimes led — to spaces by men and women on horseback.

But they did get a chance to preview the decorations before the crowds hit. Dragons, butterflies and eagles decorated the interiors of the tents already up, while the traditional orange, red and yellow decorations — they always remind me of strings of marigolds used in India — festoon the entrance to Milner Plaza.

Friday’s market opening party already is sold out, but 10,000 tickets are being sold for Saturday and Sunday’s activities on Museum Hill. And don’t forget the free concert, artists’ procession and demonstrations in Railyard Park from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday to kick things off.
