Reward offered in forest explosion

SANTA FE – The U.S. Forest Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for placing a jar in the forest that exploded and injured a firefighter last week.

The firefighter suffered minor injuries when he came across the device July 7 near Forest Road 376 and N.M. 126 between the community of La Cueva and Fenton Lake State Park in the Jemez Ranger District of Santa Fe National Forest.

Anyone with information is asked to call the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives at 505-346-6914.
