Time travel back to the days when MTV played music videos and the best way to keep up with your favorite bands or learn about the next big thing in music was to keep the TV on that station.

The world has changed since then, but those old music videos and the fashions – from Madonna’s midriff-baring tops to Michael Jackson’s sequined glove – never get old. Now, The Downs Racetrack & Casino is giving you an opportunity to dust off your tubular 1980s outfits and totally compete for some radical prizes.

The Downs will host its “I Want My MTV” 1980s dance party and costume contest from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Aug. 2. Dress up in your best 1980s gear, test your ’80s knowledge and enjoy the era’s most popular music videos and entertainment.

DJ Mister E and DJ Don Davis will be playing music, videos and movie clips from the 1980s on more than 20 big-screen televisions, as well as the oversized LED television on the First Turn Lounge patio.

During the event, show off your best 1980s outfit and accessories (don’t forget your jelly bracelets) during the costume contest. The winner will be announced at midnight and receive $200 in cash. If you want to test how much you know about ’80s pop culture, be part of the 1980s trivia contest from 9-11 p.m.

The participant with the most correct answers will receive $50 cash. You still have plenty of time to plan your outfit, so, like, don’t have a cow. This party is going to be bodacious.

ISLETA CASINO & RESORT: It’s Christmas in July at Isleta for bingo players from 6-10 p.m. today. A $19 All-You-Can-Play pays $1,199 and the $2 Christmas in July game pays $1,000. There also will be drawings throughout the session for various prizes. As a reminder, the Bingo Hall will be closed Saturday, July 26.

Off the casino floor, inside The Showroom, take yourself back to the sweet sounds of the 1950s when rock ‘n’ roll was here to stay and Ritchie Valens was taking the country by storm with hits like “La Bamba,” “Donna” and “Come On Let’s Go.”

La Bamba Tour will hit the showroom stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26. Headlining the show will be Ray Anthony, who will perform as Valens. He will be joined by the band Cannibal and the Headhunters.

Special guest Tatiana Turan also will be part of the show and perform a tribute to singer, actress, dancer and fashion designer Jennifer Lopez.

Tickets are $10 for reserved seating and $20 for VIP seating. For tickets and information, visit isleta.com/events or call 724-3800.

SANTA ANA STAR CASINO: Take the edge off of a long work week and enjoy a champagne brunch at The Star inside its Feast Buffet. Enjoy a glass of champagne and a delicious spread of breakfast and food favorites from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays for $14.95 for adults. There is a limit of one glass of champagne per person.

If Sunday is too far away and brunch is not enough to help you de-stress, head over to The Stage. Tonight, dance away a stressful week with DJ Cyberkid, who is the resident DJ at Hakkasan, located inside the MGM Grand. Hakkasan is one of the largest and most elite clubs in Las Vegas, Nev.

Don’t miss your opportunity to party it up Sin City-style during Vegas Nights held every Saturday at The Stage.

The party continues on Saturdays with DJ Automatic during Luxe Saturdays at The Stage. Ladies can enjoy couture giveaways and specialty cocktails. Enjoy the finer things in life every Saturday and “Live the Luxe” at The Stage.

Cover is $5 for women and $10 for men on Friday and on Saturday, but before you head into The Stage, check-in on Facebook from 9-10 p.m. for free VIP access.

Not in party mode, but ready for some laughs? Visit The Stage for Thursday Night Laughs. Chuckle it up with comedians Darryl Rhoades, David Conolly and Curt Fletcher beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31. Cover is only $10 for a night of laughter.
