Time travel back to the days when MTV played music videos and the best way to keep up with your favorite bands or learn about the next big thing in music was to keep the TV on that station.
The world has changed since then, but those old music videos and the fashions – from Madonna’s midriff-baring tops to Michael Jackson’s sequined glove – never get old. Now, The Downs Racetrack & Casino is giving you an opportunity to dust off your tubular 1980s outfits and totally compete for some radical prizes.
The Downs will host its “I Want My MTV” 1980s dance party and costume contest from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Aug. 2. Dress up in your best 1980s gear, test your ’80s knowledge and enjoy the era’s most popular music videos and entertainment.
DJ Mister E and DJ Don Davis will be playing music, videos and movie clips from the 1980s on more than 20 big-screen televisions, as well as the oversized LED television on the First Turn Lounge patio.
During the event, show off your best 1980s outfit and accessories (don’t forget your jelly bracelets) during the costume contest. The winner will be announced at midnight and receive $200 in cash. If you want to test how much you know about ’80s pop culture, be part of the 1980s trivia contest from 9-11 p.m.
The participant with the most correct answers will receive $50 cash. You still have plenty of time to plan your outfit, so, like, don’t have a cow. This party is going to be bodacious.
ISLETA CASINO & RESORT: It’s Christmas in July at Isleta for bingo players from 6-10 p.m. today. A $19 All-You-Can-Play pays $1,199 and the $2 Christmas in July game pays $1,000. Off the casino floor, inside The Showroom, take yourself back to the sweet sounds of the 1950s when rock ‘n’ roll was here to stay and Ritchie Valens was taking the country by storm with hits like “La Bamba,” “Donna” and “Come On Let’s Go.”
