Warrior Fuel 2 gas station has made it easier for U.S. 550 travelers, as well as residents of the town of Bernalillo, Santa Ana Pueblo and northern Rio Rancho, to take home incredible New Mexico craft beers in growlers.

The station has numerous gasoline pumps to accommodate the thousands of drivers who migrate daily along the stretch of U.S. 550 that passes through Sandoval County.

But the diamond in the rough is its spacious convenience store that serves as an oasis off the traffic-congested path. It offers a large variety of liquors, wines, cold beer and snacks. And, it recently opened its growler area that features 12 craft beer taps.

Most of the taps offer New Mexico craft beer including Marble Brewing Company’s Red Ale and IPA; Santa Fe Brewing Company’s Happy Camper IPA, Santa Fe Nut Brown and Irish Red Ale; Sierra Blanca Brewing Company’s Alien Amber; Rio Grande Brewing Company’s Outlaw Lager; and a variety of Abbey Brewing Company’s Monks Ales. The taps also feature a few nonlocals such as Angry Orchard.

An empty 64-ounce growler runs $3.99 and costs $7.95 to fill up. The station began selling growlers at the end of May and sold more than 250 in one month, according to Silvia Gibson, manager of retail at Warrior Fuel 2.

“We have a good relationship with our suppliers,” Southern Sandoval Investments general manager David Naquin said. “Santa Fe Brewing was helpful in getting us set up and made sure that we did everything right. Customers have been supportive and it is something else that we can offer customers.”

The store also serves up traditional Mexican food including picadillo, rajas con queso, caldo de res, menudo, posole and other flavorful choices that it makes fresh in its kitchen.

Patrons can spice their dishes up further with the variety of salsas and condiments. A cold drink station with a large selection of sodas and teas will help wash it all down.
