Lifetime of dance work will be honored in N.Y.

Patricia Dickinson-Wells of Albuquerque, the owner and director of Dance Theatre Southwest, will be among dance teachers honored July 31 in New York City by Dance Teacher magazine at the Dance Teacher summit conference.

A Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Jacques D’Amboise, a former New York City Ballet principal and Balanchine protégé and the founder of the National Dance Institute.

Other dance teachers being honored are Tony Williams of Jamaica Plains, Mass., Jamee Schleifer of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Diane Frank of Palo Alto, Calif.

Dickinson-Wells danced with the Dallas Opera and Dallas Ballet and was a founding member and co-artistic director of Dancers Unlimited in Dallas for 10 years.

She founded Southwest Civic Ballet in 1994 as a forum for young New Mexico dancers to come together and learn performance skills. She has produced 15 record albums for the ballet classroom and three instructional videos.

She has taught throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. She has 14 faculty members on her Dance Theatre Southwest staff and serves as the director of Festival Ballet Albuquerque.
