SANTA FE, N.M. — Earlier this week, at a gathering mentioned in the previous post on “Growing Santa Fe Young,” Mayor Javier Gonzales was talking about growth jobs in Santa Fe, mentioned filmmaking and referred to more than 200 film students at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design.

Think again. Next fall, they’ll be up to 350 students, said Chris Eyre, head of that film school.

But their local opportunities aren’t going to include work on “Game of Thrones.” That popular TV series is filmed in Belfast, said George R.R. Martin, whose “Fire and Ice” books form the basis of the series.

A local resident, Martin said, “I can’t bring ′Game of Thrones’ to Santa Fe because it has a deficit of castles.”
