WACO, Texas – Trent Kiraly had four hits, including a double, and drove in two runs Sunday night to help Eastdale Little League defeat Colorado 9-5 and advance to Tuesday’s semifinal of the 2014 Southwest Region Little League baseball tournament.
The New Mexico team is the Pool A champion. Eastdale’s opponent will be decided tonight after the conclusion of play in pool B. It will take on the second place team from that division.
The pitching trio of Phoenix Autrey, Ben Schoneman and Kiraly combined for the victory without walking any Colorado batters. Autrey got credit for the win and Kiraly recorded the final out.
Eastdale grabbed a lead it would never give back in the bottom of the second inning as the bottom of the batting order loaded the bases without benefit of a hit. A bases loaded walk provided the first run of the inning while a wild pitch made it 2-0. Autrey then rapped a two-run double off the center field wall to give Eastdale a 4-0 lead.
Colorado answered with three runs in the top of the third on a home run by pinch hitter Sage Schulte, but New Mexico batted around in the fourth to score four runs on four hits to put the game out of reach.
