SANTA FE – Gov. Susana Martinez has appointed Roswell lawyer Kea Riggs to a vacant District Court judgeship in southeastern New Mexico.
Riggs replaces retired District Judge Charles Currier in the 5th Judicial District.
The governor said Riggs has an “outstanding background” as a former prosecutor, private practice attorney and part-time federal magistrate judge.
Riggs was a prosecutor in the 5th District from 1994 to 1999, and was a prosecutor in the 3rd Judicial District in Dona Ana County from 1991 to 1993.
She received a law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1990.
Riggs will appear on the November general election ballot as the Republican nominee for the judgeship.
