Coach: Trent Spencer (1st year)
Last season: 3-7
Returning starters: 4 offense, 4 defense
Key players: Ralph Olguin, sr. (5-11, 190, QB); Isaiah Baldando, sr. (5-11, 220, OL); Pablo Lopez, sr. (6-3, 280, DL); Marcus Jaramillio, sr. (5-10, 165, WR/CB); Luis Molinar, sr. (5-8, 165, RB/LB); Brian Guerrero, jr. (5-9, 160, WR); Johnny Unale, jr. (6-1, 180, TE/LB); Brandon Warren, so. (5-10, 155, WR); Andre Bethea, fr. (5-8, 205, RB/LB).
Outlook: Spencer – in his fourth head-coaching stop in New Mexico – and his staff have taken over a team with a strong starting group but a significant lack of depth. Bernalillo has just 27 players on the roster. If the Spartans can improve their depth, they believe they can challenge for the District 2-5A title. The offense will have a more up-tempo style this year, while the defensive line is loaded with experience and should keep other teams’ offenses in check. “The truthful matter is we look pretty tough. The only real area of weakness is our depth,” Spencer said.

Circle the date: It can be hard to tell sometimes how teams react to new coaches; given that, keep an eye on the season opener against Taos. Could say a lot about how the season will go for the Spartans.
