CHAMA – A Chama village councilor and former high school basketball coach was arrested on a DWI charge in Chama over the weekend.

Milnor Manzanares, 66, was arrested about 5 p.m. Saturday at Eighth Street and Terrance Avenue in Chama after a traffic stop, according to the New Mexico State Police. He was driving a 2005 Ford pickup truck, police said.

Manzanares is in his second term on the Village Council, a village official said.

Manzanares was a longtime boys basketball coach at Escalante High School in Tierra Amarilla and also at Taos High School. He led the Escalante Lobos in 1983 to the Class AA Championship.

The Journal was unable to reach Manzaneres for comment.
