Residents of Enchanted Hills will soon have more shopping options as several stores are poised to break ground with new construction at the Plaza at Enchanted Hills, on the west side of NM 528, across the highway from Walmart.
Three of the new stores applied last month for non-residential construction permits from the City of Rio Rancho: T.J. Maxx, a clothes retailer and department store; arts and crafts retailer Michaels; and Bed Bath & Beyond, which is known for home furnishings.
“As we continue to grow and open stores, we are always looking for new locations where we will be able to offer our new customers the broad assortment and outstanding customer service that is Bed Bath & Beyond. Rio Rancho is such a location and we are very excited to be coming there,” said Bed Bath & Beyond public relations assistant Leah Drill.
She said the 25,000-square-foot store is planned to open next summer.
At the Rio Rancho Roundtable meeting on Aug. 1, Pegasus Retail, which is based in Albuquerque, announced several more stores would arrive by next summer.
Anthony Johnson, Pegasus founder and president, said they are: Kirkland’s, which offers home decor and unique gifts; Famous Footwear, which specializes in branded shoes; PetSmart, which carries pet supplies; and rue21, a discount apparel retailer that caters to youth.
In a site plan he emailed Friday, Johnson indicated the new stores would join a Giant gas station, a Jack in the Box fast-food restaurant, a Mattress Firm store, and a branch of State Employees Credit Union, all located along NM 528, just south of Enchanted Hills Boulevard.
In addition, according to the site plan, Sally Beauty Supply will open among most of the stores on the south side of the plaza.
Johnson said more leases will be announced shortly and future tenants would offer clothing, food and electronics.
According to the site plan, the plaza contains more locations for retail, including two more anchor spots with over 20,000 square feet each.
Overall, the development will add 225,000 square feet to the Rio Rancho retail market. The tenants will sit on about 25 acres on the plaza, bounded by Lincoln Avenue, Enchanted Hills and NM 528.
