Boise State at a glance

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Coach: Bryan Harsin (first year at Boise State, 8-5 in one year at Arkansas State)

Last year: 8-5 overall, 6-2 MWC (2nd in Mountain Division), lost to Oregon State 38-23 in Sheraton Hawaii Bowl

Predicted 2014 finish: 1st in Mountain Division

Preseason All-MWC: WR Matt Miller, RB Jay Ajayi, DB Donte Deayon, DB Jeremy Ioane

Starters/Lettermen returning: 15/46

Returning statistical leaders: Ajayi, 249-1,463, 18 TDs; QB Grant Hedrick, 167-242, 16 TDs, 5 Int; Miller, 88-1140, 12 TDs; LB Ben Weaver, 89 total tackles

Notable: Harsin, a 1999 Boise State graduate, was an assistant to Chris Petersen in Boise before spending two years on Mack Brown’s staff at Texas. Harsin was the head coach at Arkansas State last season … Last year’s record of 8-5 was the Broncos’ worst since 1998. … All 12 of the Broncos’ games this season are scheduled for national TV (though it’s possible some could wind up online on ESPN3).

Quotable: “Somebody was going to have to follow Pete if he was going to leave. That’s just how it is, and I have no problem with that. As a matter of fact I appreciate it, because I had a chance to be there with him.” – Harsin, to ESPN.com

Outlook: Harsin has said he won’t stray far from the system and the philosophy that won 94 games under Petersen the past eight seasons. Inexperience in the offensive line (two starters returning) might be the only thing holding the Broncos back.
