Albuquerque native and culinary school graduate Casey Armstrong-Lange has begun transforming a onetime chicken restaurant at 400 Washington SE into Kasey’s, a 60-seat steakhouse she hopes to open this fall.
Armstrong-Lange, a 2006 graduate of Johnson & Wales University, said she and her husband — who have both worked in restaurants — had long talked about starting their own place. She said the property at Washington and Lead, owned by her father and uncle, seemed like a good place to give it a go.
The building originated as a country-style restaurant, she said, and later served as home to the Albuquerque Bridge Club.
“But it’s been quite a few years since then, and so it’s been empty, and we just decided to open it as a restaurant,” she said.
Kasey’s will serve food at what Armstrong-Lange called a “moderate” price point.
“Kids are welcome (and) we want it to be affordable for families to come and enjoy the neighborhood. We have a great patio with huge trees,” she said, noting that outdoor area means seating for about another 30 guests.
In addition to steaks, Kasey’s will do burgers, sandwiches and salads. It will serve craft beer and offer wine — yep, wine — on tap.
