ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Hobby Lobby’s move up Montgomery should be finished in plenty of time for the holiday season.
The arts and crafts retailer should complete its relocation from the Montgomery/Wyoming intersection to the Montgomery/Eubank intersection in September, according to a news release.
An assistant store manager said Friday that the company already had begun transferring inventory to the new space.
Hobby Lobby gains about 12,000 square feet with the move. Its new home measures 60,000 square feet.
Hobby Lobby’s move to 9500 Montgomery NE puts it in the rapidly changing Sierra Vista Shopping Center, which has rebounded quickly after losing anchor tenant Kmart last year. The retail team from the commercial real estate firm CBRE also has signed Stein Mart to join Hobby Lobby in filling the hole left by Kmart.
Stein Mart is expected to open this fall.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear what will happen to Hobby Lobby’s current store at Wyoming and Montgomery. The property manager for the shopping center declined comment on the future of the 48,000-square-foot space, which previously housed Walmart.
