CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) — An Eddy County Sheriff’s deputy is facing charges after authorities say she assaulted her live-in girlfriend.

Authorities said 37-year-old Lisa Springer was arrested this week and was charged with battery against a household member.

According to a criminal complaint, Carlsbad police were called to the couple’s home earlier this month in response to a domestic disturbance.

The complaint says Springer was heavily intoxicated and repeatedly had punched her girlfriend after accusing her of having an affair.

Authorities say the victim told investigators Springer was habitually physically abusive and intoxicated.

Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Mike Chavarria says Springer, a deputy sheriff, has been placed on administrative leave.

Springer was ordered held on $10,000 cash bond.

It was not known if Springer had an attorney.
