ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A lightning storm Wednesday night caused thousands of dollars in damage to the lights and PA system in the stadium at V. Sue Cleveland High according to Rio Rancho Public Schools spokeswoman Kim Vesely. The school, Vesely said, is dealing with between $10,000 and $15,000 in damage.
“There was a pretty violent storm Wednesday night in Rio Rancho,” Vesely said. “And those lights are one of tallest things in neighborhood so it’s not surprising this happened.”
Vesely said the PA system has been repaired and the stadium lights will be repaired soon. She said that crews are not sure if the lightening hit one of the poles directly or the ground nearby.
“There is damage to the lamps on some of the poles,” she said. “But there is no damage to the breakers, which we originally thought.”
