New Mexico Black Expo Saturday in ABQ

The 5th annual New Mexico Black Expo will be held Saturday at Civic Plaza in Downtown Albuquerque.

The state Office of African American Affairs said in a news release the event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The news release said a major component of Black Expo is the exposure of African American businesses and entrepreneurs.

This year the event also will have its first Black Book Fair, which will be hosted by local independent book store Bookworks, the news release said.

The Black Expo also will feature a nuclear simulator exhibit provided by Visionary Solutions LLC, a program from 10 a.m. to noon geared to middle school and high school age students, an Urban/Hip Hop dance workshop at 10 a.m. and a tour of Warehouse 508 (the city’s Teen Arts Center) departing at 11 a.m., according to the news release.

There also will be food, entertainment and a play area for young children, the news release said.
