Jose Rodriquez, 17, is wanted in the shooting of Javier Vasquez at Lower Pat Hurley Park on Monday.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Rodriquez who allegedly shot Vasquez and then kicked him at the park on Monday, according to a court document.

On Monday, a large number of vehicles from two car clubs, Young Ryder’s and El Compa, arrived at the park about 7 p.m. Monday. Both car clubs were at opposite ends of the park.

Some females from the opposing car clubs began to fight. A number of people tried to stop the fight.

A male from one of the car clubs went to a black Chevrolet Tahoe and pulled out a handgun and began firing. Another person from the Young Ryder’s car club also pulled out a handgun and began to fire, according to the court document.

It was not immediately known who fired into the crowd and who fired into the air.

People from the two car clubs began to scatter, get into numerous vehicles, and flee from the park.

A juvenile from the Young Ryder’s group was hit by several bullets and was lying in the park’s parking lot. He was later identified as 15-year-old Javier Vasquez.

Two of Vasquez’s friends picked him up, put him inside a Chrysler 300 and were on their way to take Vasquez to a hospital. Vasquez’s friends also called 911 and were told by a dispatcher to pull over and wait for police and emergency rescue units, according to the court document.

They pulled over near the Beach Apartments at Central and Tingley Beach NW. Vasquez was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital with gunshot wounds to his thigh and another to his back.

One of the bullets fragmented, puncturing Vasquez’s lung and penetrating his spine. Vasquez is now paralyzed, according to a court document.

The next day, a witness told Albuquerque police that a shooter, later identified as Rodriquez, shot Vasquez in the back and then kicked Vasquez. The witness said the other shooter was shooting up in the air, according to the court document.

Rodriquez and another male then got into the black Chevrolet Tahoe and sped away.

The witness later saw the Tahoe at an apartment complex on Chelwood NE, according to the court document.

Police are still searching for Rodriquez.
