ALAMOGORDO (AP) — Federal immigration officials say four suspected illegal immigrants came through a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint during the weekend in an emergency vehicle.

The Alamogordo Daily News reports that the men entered the U.S. 54 South Border Patrol checkpoint Saturday morning in an Otero County Volunteer Fire Department emergency rescue vehicle.

Otero County Sheriff Benny House said three passengers in the rescue vehicle were all dressed in volunteer fire department attire and claimed to be U.S. citizens. He said the men told authorities that they were going to Alamogordo to attend a training session.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detained the four men after officials reported that two of the men were living in the U.S. illegally.

The rescue vehicle was transported to the Otero County Sheriff’s Department.
