School resource officer who died suddenly on Jan. 4 mourned by community.
Alamogordo High School students, members of the community, Department of Public Safety and law enforcement agencies from across southern New Mexico all said farewell on Sunday to Andrew J. Dominguez, the 39-year-old ADPS officer who died suddenly at his home on Jan. 4, the Alamogordo Daily News reported.
The funeral took place at the high school’s Tiger Pit with more than 1,400 people in attendance, the Daily News said.
Dominguez began his career with the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety in 2001 as a patrol officer, then he moved to the Community Relations Division and became a school resource officer assigned to Alamogordo High School and was a D.A.R.E. officer at Heights and La Luz elementary schools, the paper reported.
He received several awards during his service with ADPS, including four exceptional duty awards, eight grand cordon awards, two lifesaving awards, a gallantry star, an honorable service award and three other recognitions from supervisors, according to the Daily News.
Dominguez is survived by his wife, Eva, and three children: Desiree, a student at Eastern New Mexico University, and Andria and Andrew, both students at Alamogordo High, the Daily News said.
The cause of death has not been reported.

Tuesday night’s girls’ basketball game between Alamogordo High School and Chaparral was canceled Tuesday because of the sudden death of Andy Dominguez, the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety’s resource officer at the high school, officials told the Alamogordo Daily News.
According to unconfirmed reports, the 39-year-old Dominguez died at home, but a cause of death hasn’t been released, the Daily News said.
Dominguez’s daughter Andria is a senior point guard and captain of the Alamogordo girls’ basketball team, the paper reported.
“We’re just saddened by this loss and our condolences go out to the family,” said Lawrence Johnson, Alamogordo Public Schools athletic director, who announced the cancellation of Tuesday night’s game.
Dominguez was hired by the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety in 2001 as a patrol officer, and he later became a training officer and then moved to the high school as resource officer as part of the ADPS Community Relations Division, the Daily News said.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Hamilton-O’Dell Funeral Home, the paper reported.
