State marks African American Day
The Rev. Al Sharpton, a noted civil rights leader, will be the guest of honor today at the Capitol on African American Day at the state Legislature.
Sharpton is scheduled to speak to a joint session of lawmakers on the House floor at 11 a.m. Before that, he’ll hold a Capitol news conference alongside Lee Saunders, a high-ranking official with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union.
A minister, radio talk show host and former Democratic presidential candidate, Sharpton has been an outspoken activist on the subject of racial equality.
