UPDATED: ABQ Judges Perform Record Number of Valentine’s Day Weddings

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Six Metro Court judges married 81 couples Monday

A half-dozen judges for the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court in Albuquerque have performed a record number of weddings for Valentine’s Day.

Court spokeswoman Janet Blair says 81 couples were married Monday, six more than the previous record.

More than 100 weddings had been scheduled, but not everyone showed up to exchange their vows.

The ninth floor of the Metropolitan Courthouse was set up as “wedding central” for the weddings that began around 10 a.m.

Blair said court employees volunteered their time to do the paperwork for the couples and escort the wedding parties.

The court also decorated wedding arches for photographs.

There was no charge for the ceremonies, but couples were required to get a $25 wedding license from the county clerk beforehand.

And she said that didn’t include possible walk-ins.

Blair expected weddings to begin about 10 a.m. and continue all day.
