Hastings To Close One ABQ Location

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Within the first month of the new year, more than 30 employees will be losing their jobs due to the closing of a Northeast Heights retailer.

The Hastings at Candelaria and Tramway, which is one of about a half dozen locations in the metro area, is set to close on Jan. 23, according to a news release issued Wednesday. All other local Hastings stores will continue normal operations, the release said.

The reason it gave for the closure: “Store operating profit being less than that required by management.”

The store, which employs 35 full- and part-time associates, will be conducting a going-out-of-business sale through its last day, and all sales will be final. Rental membership cards and gift cards can continue to be used at any other Hastings location in Albuquerque, including 4315 Wyoming NE, 840-A Juan Tabo NE, 6051 Winter Haven NW and 6001-R Lomas NE. Gift cards can also be redeemed at gohastings.com.

A Hastings spokesperson could not be reached for comment late Wednesday.

Founded in 1968, Hastings Entertainment, Inc., is a multimedia entertainment retailer that sells new and used books, videos, video games and CDs.
