UPDATED: Officer-Involved Shooting in ABQ

APD says one person was fatally shot by an officer during a confrontation at a home in the 7600 block of Sunrose NW

 

Bernalillo County has confirmed that the man shot by police was the adult son of Deputy County Manager Renetta Torres.

One person was killed this afternoon in an officer-involved shooting in Northwest Albuquerque, according to APD Deputy Chief Beth Paiz.

Paiz said the officer was not injured.

The shooting occurred after APD detectives went to a home in the 7600 block of Sunrose NW at about 2 p.m. to serve an arrest warrant, according to Paiz.

She said there was a confrontation and during the confrontation an officer fired shots, hitting one person who died at the scene.

Details about the arrest warrant were not immediately known.

Police were continuing this afternoon to interview possible witnesses and gather
evidence.

Albuquerque Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Trish Hoffman says a
shooting in the northwest part of the city this afternoon involved a
police officer.

The shooting was at a home in the 7600 block of Sunrose NW.

No other information was immediately available.
