State Auditor Hector Balderas claims Public Regulation Commission Chairman Pat Lyons drove a federally-purchased truck for personal travel and called for Lyons to resign from his seat.
The details of the alleged wrongdoing are included in a special audit that the State Auditor’s office announced today.
Balderas said he would refer violations of state and federal law to law enforcement authorities. He also said is concerned about a “culture of fear” at the PRC that may be stopping some employees from coming forward with information.
The special audit was prompted by the case of Jerome Block Jr., a former PRC commissioner who resigned last year after pleading guilty to misusing taxpayer dollars.
This isn’t the first run-in between Balderas, a Democrat, and Lyons, a Republican. In September 2011, Balderas said Lyons was verbally abusive and physically threatening to his staff, while Lyons claimed Balderas was playing politics.
