ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — If further evidence is needed that my job is a bit of a scam at times, consider my plans next week to go out birdwatching with Judy Liddell, author of the lovely new book Birding Hot Spots of Central New Mexico. (Really. I get paid for this.) We’ll have a Go page story in a couple of weeks on Judy, her book, and how and where to watch birds around these parts.
But you don’t have to wait for my work to land on your driveway (laptop?), because Judy’s also got a delightful blog on her bird outings, including today’s entry on one of my favorite weekend haunts, the Rio Grande Nature Center:
When we reached the river, there was a Great Blue Heron crouched on a low limb over-hanging the river. A Common Merganser flew by as it headed up river.
We scanned all of the empty nests along the trail, but there was no sign of a nesting owl.
