ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The woman who collapsed in the driver’s seat before causing a crash on Wyoming at I-40 Tuesday was dead before the crash, officials said.
Medical examiners have determined that the woman had an unknown type of medical episode which caused her to veer off the road.
A woman is in critical condition at an area hospital after this morning’s crash on Wyoming Boulevard at I-40, police said.
Witnesses told officers the woman collapsed in the driver’s seat of her vehicle while driving southbound. The woman then veered off the side of the road and crashed, police said.
At least five other vehicles also crashed on Wyoming, police said, including a man who was transported to the hospital for chest injuries.
Police are investigating and cleaning up a six-vehicle crash on Wyoming at Interstate 40 at this time.
Wyoming is closed in both directions over the freeway, APD officer Tasia Martinez said in an email, and the crash may have resulted in at least one fatality.
