Pedestrian Killed in Traffic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Pedestrian error and speed were believed to be contributing factors in a fatal accident at Wyoming and Claremont NE on Thursday, according to Albuquerque police.

Cecilia Garcia, 60, was walking west, across Wyoming, when she was hit by a green SUV around 10 a.m., according to a police report.

The driver, a 52-year-old man who police identified only as Montanna, said he was driving southbound on Wyoming in the right lane when another vehicle swerved into his lane causing him to brake. Montanna claimed the vehicle swerved back into the middle lane, at which time he ran into Garcia in the right lane, the report stated.

According to police, witnesses said Garcia was walking west and began to run into the right lane, where a vehicle had swerved to avoid hitting her.

Garcia was taken to an Albuquerque hospital and was pronounced dead, the report said.

No charges have been filled against the driver.
