ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The association named Ramos the 2009 Officer of the Year in New Mexico
State Police Sgt. N. Ramos has been named the 2009 Officer of the Year by the New Mexico Sheriffs’ and Police Association, according to a news release from the State Police.
The news release said Ramos, with the Department of Public Safety Crime Enforcement Unit, was nominated and selected for his efforts in making 17 felony arrests and eight misdemeanor arrests in 2009.
Ramos, in making the arrests, was able to seize 94 pounds of crystal meth, 78 pounds of cocaine, 260 pounds of marijuana and 1 pound of heroin — illegal drugs that had a total street value of $2.57 million, according to the news release. He also had $421,000 in cash seizures.
The news release also said Ramos was nationally recognized recently for a single road seizure case that netted the country’s largest crystal meth seizure of 85 pounds.
