CARLSBAD (AP) — The Eddy County Commission has voted to give the sheriff’s department a new office complex. Still to be answered is the cost, how big a complex and where the complex would be built. The sheriff’s department is currently housed in the basement of the Eddy County courthouse.
Commissioner Guy Lutman says although he supports building a new facility for the sheriff’s department, he is concerned that financially the county could over-extend itself because it is currently moving forward with construction of a roadway on the west side of Carlsbad.
The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports a delegation from Eddy County recently toured Lea County’s new sheriff’s department complex that cost $8 million including construction, equipment and furnishings.
