Blue Cross and Blue Shield of N.M. President Resigns

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico President Liz Watrin resigned effective Wednesday for what she said were personal reasons.

Kurt Shipley, vice president of New Mexico networks and programs, has assumed the additional role of interim executive director of the company.

In a prepared statement, Blue Cross and Blue Shield thanked Watrin for her service and said there is no schedule for finding her replacement.

The company said that Shipley “is an experienced senior executive with our company and in this state. We are confident in his ability to lead the company as we address the future needs of the market. In the meantime, he will ensure that the company remains focused on the needs of our existing and future customers.”

Watrin became the company’s president in 2003, shortly after it was acquired by Health Care Service Corp. of Chicago. She joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield in 1980 as a clerk. She was vice president of member services when she was tapped to succeed Norm Becker as company president.
