A pregnant woman in possession of cocaine who was arrested on Wednesday was on probation for the drug-related death of her two-year-old in 2008.
Rose Garcia and Joe Martinez, both 30, were arrested at a Sonic in Española, according to a news release from the Department of Corrections. Garcia, who is pregnant, was found with six grams of cocaine. The pair had two toddlers, ages 1 and 2, in the backseat of the truck.
On May 7 or 8, 2008, Garcia and Martinez’s two-year-old ingested cocaine and died as a result. The couple pleaded no contest to child abuse in March 2010 and were given deferred sentences and placed on three years of probation, the release said.
