SANTA FE— New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez is joining the nation’s governors at a meeting in Washington, D.C. that will include talks with President Barack Obama.
Martinez will attend the winter meeting of the National Governors Association, which runs through Monday.
Business leaders and officials in the Obama administration will speak to the governors in sessions on state economies, health care, energy, childhood hunger and the changing role of the National Guard.
The governors visit the White House on Monday to meet with the president and vice president.
A spokesman for Martinez said the governor left Thursday afternoon for Washington and will return to New Mexico on Tuesday.
Martinez, a Republican, is the nation’s first Hispanic female governor.
