ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Cleveland junior Levi Smith last weekend won the 1-meter diving title at the state swimming and diving championships at the Albuquerque Academy Natatorium.
Smith scored 448.10 points during the competition.
The runner-up, Desert Academy’s Stuart Sproul, scored 399.8 points. Rio Rancho junior Ryan Fairhurst was third, with 334.05 points. Sheamus O’Hara of the Storm was ninth.
Smith’s was the top showing of the weekend for either Cleveland or Rio Rancho.
Although, the Rams’ Luis Felipe Conejo had two strong races. He was the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle, and was third in the 200 free. St. Pius’ Jack Feely won both events.
Rio Rancho’s Nick Balmer finished second in the 100 breaststroke, and was fifth in the 200 individual medley.
Jordan Sousa of Cleveland was fifth in the girls’ 100 backstroke and eighth in the 200 free.
Tyler Lynch of Cleveland was seventh in the 100 free.
TEAM: Rio Rancho’s boys placed fifth, with Cleveland 13th.
The Storm girls were also 13th, with the Rams in 16th place.
