Feds honor 3 NM schools for achievement gains

Three New Mexico schools are being honored by the federal government for making significant gains in student achievement.

The U.S. Department of Education announced Thursday that Bosque Farms Elementary School, Ranchvale Elementary School near Clovis and Santa Teresa Elementary School were selected as national blue ribbon schools. They were among 304 schools nationally to receive the honor.

New Mexico Education Secretary Susanna Murphy said the New Mexico schools had double-digit increases over the past five years in student proficiency in math and reading. Each of the schools have at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds, including students from low-income families.

The schools will be honored at a ceremony in November in Washington, D.C.
