SANTA FE — Santa Fe authorities think thousands of dollars has been stolen from city parking meters and still no charges have been filed.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports no one will say publicly how much money they believe has been stolen from parking meters, but the paper reports people close to the investigation believe it may involve tens of thousands of dollars stolen over a period of many months.
Police, city administrators and the District Attorney’s Office have identified a suspect in the ongoing coin embezzlement case whom they won’t name publicly.
It’s at least the third reported instance of suspected stealing by city workers in that division in recent years. In one case, workers accused of embezzlement lost their jobs, while in two other cases, the employees stayed on the city payroll. None has been the subject of criminal charges.
