Five boys from Cleveland and Rio Rancho have been named first-team All-District 1-5A for the 2011-12 basketball season.
Guards Kyle Quintana and Jason Jackson were chosen from Cleveland, part of a 12-person first team. Guard Nick Tartaglia, forward Jared Fuller and guard Josh Lucero were on the team from Rio Rancho.
Ray Rodriguez of Cibola and Greg Brown of Volcano Vista were Co-Coaches of the Year.
The rest of the first team is James Healy, Devon Vallejos, Marcus Tenorio and John Thompson from Cibola, plus Sam Haywood, Kendall Johnson and Eric Lee from Volcano Vista.
Healy, Haywood and Quintana were Tri-Players of the Year.
Rio Rancho’s Austin Patterson, Cleveland’s Desmond Branch, Cibola’s Ross Buchman and Volcano Vista’s Matty Martinez were honorable mention.
♦ Junior guard Brandon Saiz and senior guard Trey Darnell were named to District 2-4A’s first team from Bernalillo. Tristan Arnett, a junior guard, was on the second team. Senior Dustin Darnell was honorable mention.
Volcano Vista’s Lisa Villareal is the Coach of the Year; she guided the Hawks to the Class 5A state title earlier this month.
Her senior point guard, Emma Fenske, was named the 1-5A Player of the Year.
Cleveland put post Sara Hattis, plus guards Caitlyn Espinosa and Karlie Peck, on the first team. Guards Ally Salata and Alicia Herrera were recognized from Rio Rancho.
The other first-team members are Kassandra Harris and Alex De La O from Cibola, plus Schylar Malone, Laneah Bryan, Jacklyn Alfaro and Hannah Fenske from Volcano Vista.
The honorable mentions were Ericka Tonini from Rio Rancho, Xan Ortiz from Cleveland, Kristen Weeker from Cibola and Ashley Williams from Volcano Vista.
♦ Bernalillo had two players on the first team in 2-4A — senior guard Marissa Valencia and senior forward Katie Darnell. Junior guard Olivia Layden was on the second team. Junior guard Janalee Pacheco and sophomore guard Kiona McCulley were honorable mention.
