The man who allegedly tried to flee the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident on Saturday has a lengthy criminal history.

Erminio Gonzalez, 31, was arrested and charged in Albuquerque with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and failure to render aid, according to county records. He had been released from prison on Jan. 13 and was on probation and parole.

Gonzalez  was sentenced to four years in prison, five years of probation and two years of parole in June 2009. He was found guilty of drug-trafficking charges, according to a news release from the Corrections Department.

Since his release in January, Gonzalez had completed 20 office visits and passed two drug tests, although Gonzalez admitted to using heroin, the release said. Officers also made six field visits to Gonzalez.

Before his most recent jail sentence, Gonzalez has had run-ins with police since 1999 when he was charged with possession of a controlled substance. He’s faced similar felony charges on multiple occasions, as well as multiple charges of robbery.

Witnesses reported seeing Gonzalez flee the scene Saturday morning after crashing his Cadillac with a motorcycle on Central at Rio Grande, KRQE reported. Police said one witness saw him try to get away and physically grabbed him and pulled him back onto the scene.

The motorcyclist, 44-year-old Ronald Queen, was critically injured and later died at the hospital.
