Mora Co. Sheriff Under Investigation

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Mora County Sheriff Thomas Garza is under investigations after it was alleged that he told a deputy to release a DWI suspect Saturday night, and when the deputy refused Garza allegedly tried to fire him on the spot, a State Police spokesman confirmed to KOAT-TV.

State Police Lt. Robert McDonald told Action 7 News that an argument between the sheriff and the deputy was witnessed by another deputy, and State Police also were looking at whether Garza assaulted the deputy in any way.

Phone calls and emails to the sheriff Wednesday got no response, Target 7 reporter Lauren Zakalik said.

State Police said the suspect eventually was booked into the Mora County Jail for driving while intoxicated, KOAT-TV said.
